Rate of Chemical Reactions

Molarity

It may be defined as the number of moles of the solute present in one liter of solution. So,

the number of moles of the solute present in one liter of solution is Molarity

If 1 mol of the solute is present in 1 L of the solution, we say that the solution is one molar or concentration of the solution is 1 M i.e. molarity of solution is 1.

Representation of Molarity

In chemical reactions the Molarity of a reactant or a product is represented by putting its symbol or formula within a square bracket, [ ]. For example, in reaction

In chemical reactions the Molarity of a reactant or a product is represented by putting its symbol or formula within a square bracket, [ ]

The molar concentration of reactants nitrogen and hydrogen can be represented as [H2] and [N2] respectively while molar concentration of product ammonia can be represented as [NH3]
