Reproductive health
Reproductive health means to ensure a safe, responsible and satisfying reproductive life. As we know that usually the various types of diseases spread by different types of bacteria, virus, protozoans and fungi. In the same way there are some diseases which spread from an infected person to a healthy person by sexual contact. Such diseases are called sexually transmitted diseases. Thus both men and women should have enough awareness about about the cause and prevention of these sexually transmitted diseases, so that they may remain healthy. Thus the precautions and the control measures which are taken to prevent sexually transmitted diseases is called reproductive health.
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
These are those diseases which spread from an infected person to a healthy person by sexual contact. The common examples of sexually transmitted diseases are:
- AIDS
- Gonorrhoea
- Syphilis
- Trichomoniasis
AIDS
AIDS stands for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. The causative agent of AIDS is a virus namely HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). This disease weakens the immune system of concerned person. Due to weak immune system the patient of AIDS is attacked by various types of diseases which ultimately lead to death of patient of AIDS. AIDS spreads through different methods. The disease spreads;
- Through use of HIV infected needles.
- Through transfusion of HIV infected blood from person suffering from AIDS to healthy person.
- From AIDS infected mother to her children.
- Through Sexual contact with HIV infected person.
Gonorrhoea, Syphilis and Trichomoniasis
These diseases spread by microorganisms. The microorganisms responsible for causing Gonorrhoea and Syphilis are bacteria, while trichomoniasis is caused by protozoa. The main symptoms of these diseases are feeling of burning sensation during urination, inflammation in urino-genital duct and pus in urine. All of these 3 diseases are curable.
